I am delighted to announce that I was featured in Bristol 247 with Bristol Clay. Read the full feature here:
https://www.bristol247.com/culture/art/centrespace-welcomes-back-bristol-clay-the-citys-largest-group-exhibition-in-ceramics/
Bristol Clay is a group of ceramicists from several studios who are presenting a diverse and exciting group exhibition, demonstrating the possibility of clay. From 11-22 November, Centrespace (a large exhibition space tucked behind St Stephen's Street on St Leonards Lane) will host a myriad of ceramic styles. If you are interested in functional ware, ceramic artists Lucy Winch, Miranda Wells and Joanna Copperman will be showing their fine and beautiful thrown and hand embellished work. Political ceramicists Laura Grainger (myself), from The School of the Damned and Deborah Weymont, who is trespassing royal land to source her material, will be showing new work created for this show. Mandy MacDonald and Rhi Jarman will delight with their fine and characterful animals and sculptures from nature and Hannah Jowatt and Susannah Peacock will be referencing the wonders of the deep with their allogorical and figurative sculptures.
Bristol Clay had a successful exhibition at Centrespace in 2021 and this year proves to be as popular and even more innovative. New ceramic artists to Bristol Clay, such as tattooist Anna Scott and Zoe Williams, who's fine porcelain work is greatly admired amongst her peirs, will also be exhibiting.
Deborah Weymont has bought the group together. "Although this is a group of women artists, this is not about the difference between male and female ceramics. This group has been chosen because the collective demonstrates a diverse number of styles, techniques and innovations. With the popularity of Channel 4's 'Great Pottery Throwdown', UK ceramics is having a renaissance right now so this exhibition will appeal to both art and ceramics fans and those who are curious to try their hand at ceramics by seeing all the possibilities up close."
Each day of the 10 day show, will be staffed by members of Bristol Clay so visitors can ask about the show and get advice about how they might get started in working with clay.
An exhibition shop will run alongside the show with smaller and collectable pieces to take away on the day.
I hope you can make it to the preview evening on the 10th of November from 6-8:30 pm.
I am please to announce that I am showing some work with the School of the damned in Set Woolwhich.
School of the Damned present over 30 artists on the 4th Floor at SET Woolwich.
Private view September 7th, 6-9pm.
Open Friday-Sunday, 12-6pm from September 8th to October 15th.
For this exhibition, artists from School of the Damned respond to and subvert the increasing technological
mediation of and lived experience, the works on display interrogate shifting material states and speculate
upon new modes of existence.
School of the Damned is a free and artist-led MFA programme operating across the UK. As an alternative to
structured education institutions, it works to create a viable and effective mode of artist-development that is
open to all. With no structure, hierarchy, or physical location, it operates both at a national and hyperlocal
level, with participating artists moving around the UK for meetings, workshops, and projects. Free for all, it
brings together curators, writers, and artists who spend 1-2 years developing their practices; it is recognised
as being at the forefront of a movement focused on positioning effective modes of art education outside the
dominant structure of university institutions and art schools.
For any enquiries, please contact School of the Damned via Instagram: @schoolofthedamned.

I am delighted to announce that I have pieces in the school of the damned ‘WIP 1’ show at Birmingham School of art running September 27th to 2nd of October 2022.
Come along and have a look at what I have been working on the past few months.
I am delighted to announce that I have been offered a place as a student on the school of the damned alternative MA course for the year of 2022/2023.
School of the Damned is a free postgraduate art course run by, and for, its students. It exists to promote access to free education as a fundamental right and stands in opposition to the current system of higher education. The School operates without money, without a bank account, without financial obligation.
School of the Damned (SotD) is an arts and educational platform. Re-forming on an annual basis, each cohort has the opportunity to define the agenda and produce work and events individually and collectively. SotD was formed in 2014 as a reaction to the increasing financialisation of Higher Education in the UK. SotD has no tuition fees, is student led and peer supported. We use our collective resources and networks to make the things we want to happen, happen.
One of our ambitions is to actively engage in and facilitate public events that increase the transparency of the pedagogy, values and activities of the School. We want to promote self-awareness and an openness to critique, and to evidence that critical conversations are happening. We are motivated to interrogate practices of the School as an “institution” as well as by our individual practices. We interact with other alternative arts programmes, social enterprises and artist-led organisations to share ideas and practices.
Sharing our creative work with each other, with other artists and the public is high on the agenda. We also have ambitions to make work collaboratively through interactions, and value participation as highly as any outcomes. We recognise that as a group we are not as diverse as the communities we often work in, and value the opportunity to make art practices and artists more accessible so we can break down barriers.
I was interviewed by D the Vegan Feminist and you can read the article here:
